“While looking for a way to level up my Calligraphy skills, I was so excited to find that Gartmore House offers this Calligraphy class near me.”
About The Course

Calligraphy is a versatile art form that can be used and adapted to suit any need. With its own idiosyncrasies, each piece of writing is individual and unique. As a calligrapher and lettering artist, I can write in many styles and scripts, from the traditional to the modern, which will compliment any request.
By having a profound interest in handwriting and practising the art for over 35 years, the calligraphy Annette offers will always be of a high standard and comes automatically with a friendly and personal service. I am based in central Scotland, a stone’s throw from the magnificent Kelpies, and with easy access to both Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Your Course Tutor: Annette Reed
Annette has been a calligrapher for the best part of 35 years, and since 2011, she has worked professionally as a freelance calligrapher.
Annette was taught by a renowned calligrapher at school, Peter Halliday. He introduced her to this beautiful art, gave me her solid foundation of the intricacies and skills needed to master calligraphy, and she has been writing ever since.
From leaving school, Annette worked in an art studio writing the Books of Remembrance then worked as an Auditor for DFS furniture for 23 years, still keeping calligraphy as her hobby. There then came a junction in her life and Annette decided to follow her dream of becoming a full-time, self-employed calligrapher.
In 2012 Annette was accepted to work as a calligrapher to the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh. She began writing in the Public Registers, on traditional vellum, which record all the Arms and Bearings that have been granted by the Court and date back to 1672. Then in 2015 she was introduced to the art of Heraldry. She is a Scribe (calligrapher) to the Order of the Thistle and has written many official documents for and on behalf of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, including appointments for Nicola Sturgeon, MSP, First Minister, The Lord Lyon King of Arms, Lords Lieutenant, Commissioners for the Church of Scotland and all appointed Scottish Queen’s Counsels.
She's inscribed many memorial books, namely for Falkirk Crematorium, Clydebank Crematorium, Edinburgh University, The University of Aberdeen and also the Hero Fund Roll of Honour for the Carnegie Trust in Dunfermline. Other clients include The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, Diageo, Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland, Molton Brown and Scotrail.
To continually develop new skills and keep her calligraphy fresh and new, she attends professional workshops and she is also a member of the Calligraphy Lettering Arts Society (CLAS), Mercian Scribes and West Lothian Scribes. In 2017 she was accepted as a Craft Member of the Society of Heraldic Arts.
