Your Course Tutor: Brigid Collins
Brigid is an artist and educator whose practice is deeply rooted in close and loving observation of the natural world. She makes paintings and drawings inspired by poetry as well as working in three-dimensions and with the form of the book and is most often drawn to the tactility and sensuousness of materials such as pastels, watercolour, porcelain, tissue, wire and wax, encapsulating fragility and strength in equal measure. She has collaborated and published books with poets and authors Seamus Heaney, Kathleen Jamie and Kirsty Gunn and, most recently, also with Christine De Luca, while spending a year as Artist in Residence at Dr. Neil’s Garden in Duddingston, Edinburgh where she recently exhibited at Playfair’s wonderful Thomson’s Tower, set deep in the garden and on the shores of the loch.
Having just spent such a very happy and healing time working almost exclusively outdoors, Brigid is currently focussing on developing new work. She hopes to begin to find ways to build on this practice of working ‘en plein air’, while at the same time enjoying time being back in the studio, which really is an extension of herself and a place to create in a different way, akin to inhabiting one of her favourite poems…

Kit Neufeld
Kit is a graduate of the Scottish College of Textiles specialising in knitted fabrics, and throughout her time there, she found that the use of fine art skills such as drawing and painting were vital when searching for inspiration to create. Throughout the week, Kit will assist you in the process of honing and expanding your skill set as you work towards a personal goal with the hope that when you leave you will have gained the confidence in your own drawing skill.
Using a variety of materials and techniques, Kit will guide you as you study different subjects each day allowing for a productive but enjoyable experience.
This course is suitable for all levels, whether a complete beginner ready to start something new or a skilled artist looking for new challenge.
Nigel Overton
Since studying Drawing, Painting & Printmaking at Loughborough College of Art & Design Nigel has worked with a wide range of different media but in recent years has mainly worked in acrylics.
Whatever the medium, he has always maintained his belief in the importance of drawing, both in his own work and while teaching. Nigel has been fascinated with landscapes and seascapes since his early years as an art student. Drawing and painting continue to provide him with the visual means of expressing his personal and emotional response to an ever-changing subject.
Formerly Head of Art & Design at Benton Park School in Leeds, Nigel now paints professionally and teaches day and residential classes. Nigel has work in private collections in America, Canada, New Zealand, France, Germany, Netherlands and Australia. You can find out more about Nigel’s work by visiting the website Overton Fine Arts.
