available dates :
June - September 2023
“I’ve been fascinated by natural dyes for ages and really wanted to learn, then I found out that Gartmore House had plant dyeing classes near me. I was delighted!”
About The Course
On the hunt for a different kind of holiday? One where you can learn new crafty skills and maybe meet a few new friends along the way? Then give our plant dyeing classes a try!

These 5-night residential craft holidays are ideal for solo travellers, couples, and friends who want to try something new together. Over the course of 4 days you’ll have the opportunity to explore the world of natural dyes and how to use them with professional textile artist Ann Ross. After two days of learning how to hand dye, you’ll spend two days weaving to make a unique tapestry!
Draw inspiration from the picturesque surroundings of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park during our natural plant dyeing classes.
Ann will teach you all about natural plant dyeing and show you how to use all our native Scottish plants to create a collection of yarns and fibres in an array of natural dye colour. Watch on in wonder as these plant dyes produce an amazing diversity of rich and complex colours as well as unexpected results.
At the end of the week, you will leave with a selection of dyed yarns and fibres which you can take home to incorporate into your own craft projects and cherish for years to come.
