Our Patchwork & Quilting Holidays will appeal to both the seasoned and novice quilter. From our studio, with its panoramic views, you can enjoy the comforts of this beautiful house while receiving expert tuition and guidance from your tutor.
Mariners Compass & All about Owls
Just one of the patchwork projects that you could do whilst staying with us
Inspired by the significant maritime history associated with Gartmore House. From simple to complex there are options for beginners through to experts. Projects can be small from cushions to tote bags, table runners to larger wallhangings or you could make a start on a full bed size quilt! There are options for working by hand or machine.
In addition a range of foundation pieced blocks depicting sailing vessels can be incorporated into your project or worked as stand-alone projects.
All about Owls!
Inspired by an owl motif hidden in plain sight which took me 10 years or so to spot! If you can spot it during your holiday-and no cheating by asking…you’ll get top marks for eagle eyes. Projects include a cute wee pin cushion , a small owl shaped cushion or applique the design on to a square for a larger cushion or block for a bag or quilt.
Appliqué project- can be worked by hand or machine . Full guidance given on different methods of applique-learn the basics for beginners or finesse your technique for more advanced sewers. Lots of creative fun !
Arrive late afternoon on the Monday to afternoon tea in the lounge and a warm welcome from your tutor.
During the week you will work on your project at morning and afternoon sessions in the studio at Gartmore House. By the end of your holiday you will have completed your chosen small/medium project or be well on with a larger quilt (or finished that if you are very speedy!)
Spend the evenings in our lounge where we provide a variety of entertainment which could include a talk on the history of Gartmore House with its wonderful tale of politics poetry and passion, (you may be interested particularly in the Cayzer Room freize, which past quilters have used in their designs), DVD night or quizzes, or if you choose, continue work on your project.
Departure is after breakfast on the Friday for our short holiday or on Sunday for the longer holiday.
What do I need?
A list of equipment/materials to bring will be sent to you on booking. We do ask that you bring your own sewing machine. If however this is not possible, we are able to provide one for use during your holiday at a small charge.
